GPGN 530

Applied Geophysics

Course Description :

This course introduces non-geophysics graduate students and seniors to geophysical techniques used in a variety of industries (mining, petroleum, environmental and engineering). The methods studied include gravity, magnetic, electrical, seismic, radiometric and borehole techniques. Emphasis on techniques and their applications is tailored to student interest. The course, intended for non-geophysics students, emphasizes the theoretical basis of each technique, the instrumentation used and data collection, processing and interpretation procedures specific for each technique. It is intended to give non-specialists the background necessary to more effectively evaluate the results of geophysical investigations.
